No more legalized Power of Attorney (POA) required for services related to Patents and Industrial Designs. As per the circular email that the Ministry of Economy released, the legalization of the documents (such as Power of Attorney, Deed of Assignments, etc.) from the UAE consulates in the Applicant’s country is no longer required.

The Ministry confirmed that notarization will suffice for Patents and Industrial Design registration or amendments. Moreover, a stamp of a UAE Government Institution (such as Government Agencies, National Universities, etc.) is now considered equivalent to notarization.

Inventors who are currently employed by a UAE company have the option to submit a certificate of employment or a copy of their employment contract as an alternative to the Deed of Assignment.

The elimination of the legalization process will ease the process for Applicants which used to consume time, money, and effort. This will contribute to the initiative of the Government to be the top destination for innovators and inventors.
