DOHA – The Qatari Ministry of Commerce and Industry has introduced new guidelines aimed at enhancing the validity and accreditation of Power of Attorney. These guidelines, effective immediately, are designed to streamline the process of submitting Power of Attorney to the Trademark and Patent Office.

Key Instructions for Acceptance:

  1. Notary Seal and Authentication: All Power of Attorney must bear the seal and authentication of the issuing notary. This ensures the document’s authenticity and legal standing.
  2. Identification Information: The Power of Attorney must clearly state identification details such as the number and authentication date. Additionally, the notarized document should not be more than three years old to be considered valid.
  3. Language Requirements: Power of Attorney must be written in clear Arabic language. If the document is in another language, it must be translated by an accredited authority within Qatar.
  4. No Alterations: The Power of Attorney should be free from any alterations or amendments. If changes are necessary, the notary must verify these modifications to maintain the document’s integrity.
  5. Local Attestation: Power of Attorneys granted by notaries or consuls outside Qatar must adhere strictly to these new guidelines. They must also undergo legalization locally by the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
