Tripoli – In a recent circular issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Trade on February 14, 2024, significant changes have been introduced regarding the powers of attorney (PoA) and trademark registration in Libya. The circular specifies that a legalized PoA will now be valid for only one year.

Consequently, agents representing trademark applicants must annually submit a freshly legalized PoA to ensure the ongoing validity of the applicant’s trademark registration.

The same requirement extends to the associated commercial register document, and failure to comply with this new regulation will result in the cancellation of the registration. This proactive measure underscores the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining the accuracy and legal standing of documents associated with trademark registrations, promoting a transparent and compliant business environment in Libya.
